Review of Hollins Steele, writer/producer duo
Reviewed by Northeast In-Tune The Big Apple brings us the very talented singer/songwriter duo of Dayna Hollins and Benny Steele AKA: Hollins Steele. Co-owning The Steele Factory, a state of the art recording and production facility, they write and produce for a number of artists in the genres of pop/rock, dance/pop and R&B along with Benny making beats/tracks for hip-hop artists. With this under their belt, you would expect nothing less than perfection and Hollins Steele delivers. Although they spend a lot of time working with well know artists at their studio, the duo has found time to write, produce and record their own pop/rock CD called "Songs from Vanderbilt Avenue." The team has received rave reviews for this release and it's easy to see why when you listen. Very well written and produced and the overall sound is, as I said, that of perfection. Each and every song has great hooks, and Dayna's remarkable voice flows smoothly through the songs like a butterfly on a warm spring day. The songs are all very enjoyable, quite pleasurable and simply ideal material. These songs are all radio friendly through and through without being too mushy or sweet. Those who enjoy pop rock and like aspects of Til Tuesday, Tears for Fears and others in that style would most like very much enjoy Hollins Steele. Best of all, I saw a video of the song "Falling" taped at their CD release party and it proved, without a doubt, the perfection and feel of the recorded material carries over to their live performance with ease. Check out their website for more information and be sure to listen to and pick up "Songs from Vanderbilt Avenue." Review of Hollins Steele, writer/producer duoReviewed by A&R at Taxi "well-crafted pop/rock songs with excellent production" and "the Hollins Steele writing team is very talented!!". Songs From Vanderbilt Avenue, Editor's Pick!Reviewed by J-Sin, Smother.net Beginning with astounding vocal harmonies and sampled street sounds, you buckle yourself in tight, readying your body and soul for a truly great experience. The pop-rock duo of Dayna Hollins and Benny Steele write engaging songs that build off of imaginative and sincere lyrics that offer a genuine glimpse inside the head of two great songwriters. Recorded and produced in their very own Brooklyn studio, the album is a tantalizing affair with bubbly hooks that will knock you back, staggering with jaw agape in amazement. Post-modern pop-rock this delicious is a rare find but it's a gem whose polishing can lead to blindness. Get this now. Songs From Vanderbilt AvenueReviewed by MusicalDiscoveries.com (Read the whole review) There is no doubt that Hollins Steele's Songs from Vanderbilt Avenue is a smash contemporary pop/rock hit. The vocals and accompanying music are powerful and wonderfully melodic. The production is top-notch and the variety of songs are superbly engaging. This duo has brought together a superior blend of lush harmonic sounds that you'll want to listen to again and again. 5 Stars! Songs From Vanderbilt AvenueReviewed by Gina, Evolution of Media Entertainment (Read the whole review) The sparkling music on Songs From Vanderbilt Avenue (the location of their recording studio) reminds me of British synth pop acts like Naked Eyes and Tears For Fears, while Dayna Hollins' full-bodied vocals give the album a feel reminiscent of such female-fronted bands as The Motels, Concrete Blonde and (especially) 'Til Tuesday. Hollins and Steele come from differing musical backgrounds (she classical/he jazz), but found a common goal in their approach to songwriting. It's also their respective training that lends their music a sophistication that goes beyond the usual Xeroxing that occurs in pop music. From the opening "Prelude: Vanderbilt Avenue in C Minor" sliding into the hit-single-ready "Tongue Tied" to "Falling" (which Madonna could have covered in her True Blue period) to "Fill Me In" (which is Tears For Fears fronted by Aimee Mann) to the gorgeous "20/60 Eyes", the album rarely misses a beat. Songs From Vanderbilt Avenue is a sterling debut from Hollins Steele; so good in fact that major label attention should be just around the corner. 4.5 STARS (out of 5) Songs From Vanderbilt AvenueReviewed By Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck, www.muzikreviews.com If all that glitters is gold then Hollins Steele has an album titled Songs From Vanderbilt Avenue that is cache of sparkling pop rock. It all sounds crisp and clear backed by a superior production. As soon as you hear the thumping, powerful bass of the opening track Prelude: Vanderbilt Ave in C Minor, you know this is going to be a solid album. I had that feeling right from the start and as it turns out, I enjoyed the entire recording. The team of Dayna Hollins and Benny Steele make for the perfect complementing couple. Steele is the all around music man and Hollins has a pop diva vocal style that you simply cannot ignore. I certainly appreciated the fine musicianship and the outstanding vocals of Dayna Hollins and was pleasantly surprised how I felt when it was over. This CD is as good as any of the pop rock that is selling by the millions today, which proves one thing, not all of the best music is heard.
